This edition is a compilation of works from Aristotle to Cushing along with other contemporary writers of the time and helps to provide important and unobtainable works to those who wish to learn the fundamental history of physiology. This edition includes such essays as “De usu partium” by Galen, “De partibus animalium” by Aristotle, 1776 resolution by Captain James Cook “On the Method taken for preserving the health of the crew of H.M.S.”, as well as an essay by Pavlov.

This facsimile also includes 60 illustrations selected by Fulton. He notes that these illustrations are to provide figures and portraits that are not often seen in other historical works on physiology.
